James Richardson

AUTHOR INTERVIEW
WITH
JAMES RICHARDSON

Hi James, how are you today?

I’m doing good thank you for asking. And thank you for talking with me today.

Tell us a little about yourself?

Sure, I’m 43 years old. I’m married with a child. I used to draw comics for a living, now I write. I was involved in a car accident and broke my back, which made it impossible to sit over my drawing desk. I didn’t want to sit and feel sorry for myself, so I decided to start publishing my hobby. That’s what I did. I started taking a hard look at my hobby and polishing them up for publication.

What is your favorite movie?

That’s a tough one. I love a lot of movies. My home collection has over a thousand movies. So how about I do it like this:
Horror’s my favorite genre. I love, Halloween, Trick R’ Treat, and Friday the 13th’s.
For my all time favorite movies; Must Love Dogs, Wedding Date, Sucker Punch, Pandorum, Shawshank Redemption, and 12 Angry Men.

Are you an action, horror or Romance movie type of man?

I love horror/thrillers the most. I watch them so much that I can guess what’s coming straight away.

What is your favorite colour?

My favorite colour’s a nice rich blue.

What star sign are you?

Hahahaha! I don’t follow my sign. It’s funny because it says that I’m a talker and it’s right. I’m a good talker. I think that’s why I love to tell stories.

What is your ring tone on your phone?

That’s another funny one! I’m so old that I just use the standard ring tone. I’ve never learned how to make ring tones.

What do your family think about you writing and have they read any of your work?

My family hasn’t read any of my work, but my mom. I just showed her a story I’m doing for Halloween. She asked who wrote it and I said I did, she didn’t believe me. She kept on asking if I took it from someone else. Apparently she really enjoyed it.

Are you any good in the kitchen and what is your specialiality?

I’m Italian so I would say yeah; I’m pretty good in the kitchen. I love to cook. It’s how I won over my wife. I cook a mean Chicken Parm. I love to cook and listen to the blues. There’s nothing better to relieve stress then cooking. I turn up the music. I sing while I cook, it’s great!

What is your favorite food?

Recently I lost a lot of weight, so I eat a lot of chicken and salad, but I would say that my favorite food would be spaghetti with homemade meat sauce.

What is the most romantic thing you have done for a girl?

I’m not sure what’s romantic so here are a couple of things I’ve done. I was a poor college student and I wanted to give my wife flowers. I took post-it notes and drew a flower collage. They over lapped and it took about 50 of them. I left them on the bathroom mirror. I wrote a handwritten love letter to my wife with a dip pen and ink. I did it out of the blue so that she wasn’t expecting it. I mailed it too her even though she lived with me. I also painted her her favorite flowers in a vase.

What's the kinkiest thing you have done?

Kink is different for everyone. Things that I find kinky that I’ve done include: I’ve had sex in a car in a church parking lot; I’ve had sex in a parked car in an ice storm. I had my GF suck my member in the back seat while I had her ride the emergency break. I’ve had sex in a baseball dugout while people walked by on the other side.

There is a lot of BDSM books out now have you ever read any?

I haven’t read too many, but my mother was into bondage and I found some of my parent’s books and tapes. I loved them. People like to put humiliation into the BDSM world and I’m not a big fan of that. I like my stories to have some kind of chemistry between the characters. I want them to want each other but something is keeping them apart.

Have you ever entered in to the BDSM world for book research or personal reasons?

I’ve always liked to tie people up or handcuff them. I had a girlfriend that loved to be tied up and spanked. So I did research for that. HAHAHA! It was fun that’s for sure. I’m a top, so I love that part of BDSM.

When you write hot scenes in your book does it affect you?

Oh! Hell yeah! Boy does it ever. My wife can always tell when I’ve been writing a good sex scene because I take her as she walks through the door. She loves my new line of work.

What's the best reaction you have had from your wife/girlfriend after she's read the hot scene in a book?

My wife was editing one of my stories once and after she finished her edits she hands them too me and says I have to meet her in the bed with no clothes on. I’d say that pretty hot.

Do you have any tattoos or body piercings and what are they and where?

No… nothing like that. Not yet anyway. I’d like to get my little girls name tattooed on my chest or something like that.

What do you think of tattoos on women?

I love them if they’re classy and have a meaning. I don’t like a bunch of meaningless tattoos, stuff like stars or dog paws, they just don’t appeal to me.

What is the wildest thing you have done?

I had sex on the hood of my car in a summer rainstorm. It was pretty wild.

What does a good night on the town mean to you?

A night on the town for me would be going out to a street fair with my family. I’m a family man now.

What is your drink and do you have a favorite cocktail?

I’ve changed my eating habits so much this year. I only drink water now. I’ve never been a drinker; although I loved wine coolers back in the day. I could only drink one though. Hahahahaha! I was such a light weight.

What music would get you up on the dance floor and what would your wife/girlfriend say you danced like?
(Are you like a granddad dancing or do you think you have moves when you don't)

I’m a good dancer, I mean; I was a good dancer before my accident. Now I can’t walk or stand for very long.

Are the stories old ones you have saved or new?

The first couple were old stories. They were just to get my feet wet to see if I could publish my stories. My stories are a little on the dark side.

What is your favorite genre to write?

You don’t miss a beat do you? Hahahaha! I love to write taboo! I love it. I’m not sure why I like it so much but I do. I think it’s the power dynamic that I love so much.

Which one of you're books was your favorite to write?

Mother’s New Dress is my favorite book to write. I loved writing it. I wrote the first part in a matter of hours. I wasn’t very good at editing back in the day. No one read my work before I posted it too any number of free sites. I had that story on 3 or more sites. I feel sorry for the people that read that story the first time.

When and why did you begin writing?

I started writing when I was very young. I’ve always been a sexual person. I remember being in the 4th grade starting a story about WW3 and only a group of kids survive and of course, it was my friends and me that survived. We had to survive as a group.  My first sex story was about my 8th grade teachers. I even wrote about the girls I liked in my school. I wrote because I didn’t know how to talk to girls back then. I was a nerd that spent his lunches playing chess in the library. I was not a sexy man by any means.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?

When I started writing comics. I started writing my own comics to create and people would ask me about it.

What inspired you to write your first book?

After my car accident, I needed something to do to get me out of bed. I was in so much pain and I couldn’t draw like I used to anymore, but I needed to do something. I was feeling sorry for myself and wouldn’t want to get out of bed. This was the push.

Do you have a specific writing style?

I’m not sure. I guess we all have a style. I might not be able to say what my style is, but I know I have one.

Who was the easiest character to write for and why and hardest and why?

The easiest character from my stories to write has be Beatrice from my newest story. She just seems to roll off my fingertips at the moment. The story outline just seemed to all come together. And the hardest character to write was the Lollipop Killer’s villain. It was super hard to get into his head to be a killer. It was so hard to do that.

Which lead character is your personal favorite and why?

I’m not sure? I love them all in different ways. Like when a parent has a kid, they love them all equally, just different.

If you could pick one of your books to be made into a movie, which one would you choose and why?

Mother and Son Help Each Other Out would be my choice. I felt that that story turned me on the most when I wrote. My newest book is my new favorite though. I feel as though I’m getting better with each new story.

Who would you cast for the movie?

I’m a fan of the busty older woman for my leads. People like Kay Parker, or Margo Sullivan. I would want the young to be like Kevin James the porn star. I would even love if I could find someone that looked younger then he did.

What was your favorite book as a child?

Blubber by Judy Blume.

How did you come up with the title?

The title is the last thing that I work on. I just think about the story and the theme. Then, I try to brainstorm until a name comes to me. I’m going to let my fan group pick the next title.

How much of the book is realistic?

None of my work is real.

Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

Sometimes the events from my own life and some are from my experiences.

Have you ever binned a book when half way through thinking it wasn’t good enough?

There are books I can’t get through because they lose me, but I never put it down thinking that was a horrible book or anything. I just lose interest in it.

What books have most influenced your life most?

I’m dyslexic so I didn’t read a lot as a kid so the few books I managed to read changed me. I read Blubber and that changed me. Dr. Seuss books changed me because I wanted to make something like that.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

I would say it would be Stephen King. I’ve read his books now a bunch and I feel I’ve learned the most from him. Other then that, I don’t talk to anyone else about writing.

What book are you reading now?

Stephen King’s Mr. Mercedes. I’m also reading the Dark Tower Series too.

What are your current projects?

I’m working on a few things. I just finished a Halloween short story that will be coming out for Halloween. I’m giving it a way in a compellation with other Authors. I’m working on my first full-length novel and I’ve a detective novel in the works too. I have a lot of things going on it seems.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

I’ve always been a storyteller. I just wanted to start writing them down.

Can you share a little of your current work with us?

Sure I would love too. Here’s a piece from chapter 7. It’s still raw with no editing so be kind everyone.
Beatrice’s extended family finally left. The house is back to normal and once again Mary was at her side. Mary was talking about the upcoming plans with Bee, when she heard a familiar voice.
“Mary? Won't you be a dear and send this to King’s for me?” Jo asked as she sauntered over to Mary and Beatrice.
The young redhead was in a tight emerald green dress that matched her eyes almost perfectly. Bee was completely stunned by Jo's beauty. Her hair was like in autumn sky lit by the setting sun. Her pale skin was like that of a porcelain dolls. She had a few freckles on her shoulders and a couple on her face, which made her look exquisite. Jo’s bright red lipstick made a statement and that statement was, I want to wrap my lips around someone's giant member.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

The challenge for me is long stories and not typing fast enough to keep up with my mind. HAHAHA!

Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

So far Heidi Lis and Stephen King. I love character connections and I a good character driven story.

Who designed the covers?

Me. Can’t you tell? They’re boring and need to be redone all of them but I haven’t had the time. I feel like these days I never have enough time to get everything done.

What was the hardest part of writing your book?

Knowing how to interweave the story’s plots so that it makes a compelling story.

Do you have any advice for other writers?

Read lots of stories and go out and experience the world. How can you write about the world or the people in it if you do get out and experience it.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Thank you for believing in me. It means the world to all indie authors when people buy their work, help with street teams and promote. They’re the best.

What do you like to do when your not busy working and writing?

I still try to draw to relax myself or work on special stuff for friends. I play with my little girl or spend time with the wife.

Are you a car or motorbike kind of guy?

I have a car. My wife loves motorcycles. I like dirt bikes.

What is your favorite car?

Any one that drives. HAHAHA!!

Where do you see you self in ten years time?

I hope that I’m still creating so that people can enjoy my work. I want to bring happiness to others.
