Author interview with JAMES CROW

Author Interview
with
James Crow

Hi James, thank you for joining me today.Tell us a little about yourself?

I live in the UK in an old mansion on the moors. I’ve got six spaniels, I like ten-pin bowling and eating out, and I’ve a selection of dungeons and playrooms.

How would you describe your books?

My debut book ‘Six’ is graphic erotica of the dirty kind.

What genre is your work and are you hoping to explore new ventures (if you haven't already?)

Romance / erotica – this is new for me and the reception has been excellent so far. I’m writing book 2 as we speak.

Can you share with us a quote from one of your characters?

‘Ultimately, the submissive brings pleasure. She does this by giving herself, her body, her mind, her trust, and in doing so the pleasure of giving is felt by the submissive herself, resulting in a perpetual circle of bliss. Isn’t that poetic?’

Jonathon Gold to his new client, Emma Jane.

Do you find it is hard to come up with new ideas or plots?

New ideas and plots are easy – good ideas and plots not so. I really like to dig to find those beauties!

How about characters. Are they easy born and developed?

Same as above – the more you work on them, mold them, nurture them, (and even torture them) the better they become.

How long does it take you to complete a book?

Six is my first effort and it took me a year. I’d like to be a lot quicker with the sequel.

If you could pick any of your books published or unpublished to be made in to a movie what one would you pick?

I’d love to see Six as a movie – many reviewers have said the same thing.

Who would you choose to play your lead characters?

Channing Tatum as Jonathon Gold, and Hayden Panettiere as Emma Winters.

What inspired you to write your book?

My good friend and best-selling erotica author Jade West. She liked my dirty!

Who is your favourite character from your book?

Suki, a sweet little Japanese girl. She plays the part of one of Jonathon Gold’s ‘angels’ and she plays it very well indeed.

Without giving anything away what is/are your favourite scenes in your book and why?

The erotic interludes, specially designed rooms. The ‘round room’ has gone down extremely well with reviewers.

Do you have any hobbies?

BDSM, training submissives, and stamp collecting.

What do you do to relax?

BDSM, training submissives, and stamp collecting.

Do you have a specific writing style?

Fluid, graphic, POV-deep.

Do you have a set routine when you are writing?

Lock the doors, phone off the hook, get naked … and write!

How much of the book is realistic and are any of the experiences based on someone you know or events in your own life?

Oh yes, I have great experience in the BDSM world.

If you could choose one person dead or alive who would you consider as a mentor?

Jade West, the queen of filth. She’s an absolute star!

What are you reading now?

Sugar Daddies by Jade West.

What is your current project?

The sequel to Six.

Can you share a little from your current work with us?

Sorry, it’s only in the planning stages – but I can say that Six is going dark!

What has been the reaction to the saucy scenes in your books ?

Fantastic! You only have to read the reviews. I’m so happy about that!

What was the hottest scene you wrote for your book?

Probably the round room full of strangers, or the shaving scene, or maybe the dungeon shackling scene, or maybe the dipping party, or… oh hell they’re all hot.

If you had to do it all over again would you change anything?

Yeah, I’d make it longer!

Do you have any funny experiences with readers you'd
 like to share?

I have a few but can’t really share or they’d hang me. I have some extremely filthy fans!

What do you do to keep fit?

Crack whips. Walk the dogs. Wield crops. Play with dogs.
 And sex, lots of sex.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

No. I love it all!

Who is your favourite author and what really strikes you about them?

Jade West and Poppet: strikingly dark and filthy!

Who designed your cover?

The awesome Letitia at RBA Designs

Do you have anything you want to say to your readers?

Thank you from the bottom of my boxers. Your comments and reviews and messages have me constantly grinning.

What is your favourite genre to read and write?

Erm, there’s more than one genre?

Do you have any funny quirks?

I have a penchant for squirters.

Do you have any bad habits?

Getting the carpets wet all the time.

How would your friends describe you?

Generous, happy, adventurous, and giving in all departments.

What is the most romantic thing you have done for someone or someone has done for you?

just because I could.

What are you like in the kitchen? Do you have a specialty you love to cook?

Meatballs with extra sauce, of course.

What is your favourite food ?

What is the worst job you have ever done?

Can you write under pressure?

ALL. THE. TIME. haha

What do you do to get over writer's block?

Wine.

Have any of your family or close friends read any of your work?

Oh yes. They love it.

If you could pick any author to co author with who would it be and why?

Jade West or Poppet because they know how to trawl the depths.

What advice would you give to aspiring authors?

Just write, write, and write some more!

In the south of France, with that lovely client ;)
